Leave the gun. Take the cannoli.

Friday turned out to be a pretty interesting day.  Around 2am, I was up feeding Millie when Beansie came out of her cave to get a rather large drink of water.  Beansie never gets up in the middle of the night and for her to finish off the water bowl was really strange.  I mentioned it to Johnny in the morning and we decided to just keep an eye on her that day.  Then around lunchtime, I was searching for some chocolate and knew I had an open bag of Dove chocolates in the kitchen...which turned out to be empty.  Unless Johnny had a whole bag of Dove chocolates for breakfast, there must be another culprit in the house.  Uh-oh.  Isn't chocolate bad for dogs?!  Called the vet and they had me bring her in immediately.  This is where it gets interesting...how do I get a 55lb dog and a baby all loaded up for a trip to the vet?  I was sitting in the vet parking lot thinking "should I take the dog in and come back for the baby?  or do I leave the dog in the car, take the baby in and then come back for the dog??" (hence the Godfather quote).  Neither is a good answer since it means leaving Millie somewhere unattended and ready for the baby snatchers.  So I pulled out some mom muscles and wrangled the dog and the baby in to the vet's office at the same time.  Not pretty.

Anyhoo, as it turns out, chocolate really is bad for dogs.  That isn't just a nasty rumor.  Especially dark chocolate and a whole bag of it.  Poor Beansie had to stay a night in the hospital flushing IV fluids and charcoal through her system to get rid of the toxic chocolate.  We brought her home yesterday morning, and she's doing okay.  Kind of lethargic and not back to her old self yet but definitely alive and kicking...thank goodness.

Also this weekend, John & I celebrated our 6th wedding anniversary.  It was really lovely; we just stayed home and lounged all weekend ordering in pizza (vegan cheese for me) and eating a lot of candy.  Did you know that the traditional 6th wedding anniversary gifts are candy and iron?  We skipped the iron and went straight for the candy; no complaints here.  We spent a lot of the weekend laughing at Millie's new obsession with ceiling fans.  She breaks into a huge grin every time she catches sight of one.  It's hilarious.  I've even had trouble keeping her focused on feeding because of the big fan right above us.  Here's the typical reaction:

On a random note - my cousin Abby sent me this picture; she thinks I need this.  I think she's right.  How funny would it be to see me and Millie in this contraption?!

  1. I'm skeptical of the likelihood that the baby keeps its face properly positioned out the face hole. Just sayin'.
