Summer Break is here!! We made a list of things to do this summer, and we've managed to check off a few so far. Syd is thrilled.
First up: the girls got their ears pierced!
Millie went first and was very brave. The salon had two girls do the ear guns at the same time, so it wasn't bad at all. I could tell Millie was a little startled and couldn't decide how to react, but she stuffed those tears down and told Syd it didn't hurt! Thank goodness.
Syd did great too! She also didn't cry. She picked out ladybug earrings. Very sweet.
wacky catLittle Gym show week was fun. Syd loves Mr. Finley. It's been a great class this year!
Memorial Day weekend, we drove to Tulsa to attend Dan's high school graduation party. It's been so long since we've seen them, and we were all excited! Millie was probably the MOST excited. She's always called Dan her best friend, so she just knew he'd be thrilled to see her. ;) We are so proud of Dan, and it was great to see Luc, Coco, and Uncle Tony too!!
Coco love <3Swim lessons with Ms. Libby started up the day after school let out. It felt a bit brutal, but it was only for a week to help Mills get ready for her swim team tryouts.
Syd was much less enthusiastic. She despises swim lessons, and swimming in general is not her favorite thing. She does love to just float around in this puddle jumper though. It looks relaxing; can't blame her. Swimming is hard work. ;) Thus, Syd is still not water safe and will be in her floaty for another year.
Millie crushed those swim team tryouts! She truly did great, especially on the freestyle. She has to be six to be on the swim team, so we signed her up for July's team and she starts on Monday! Her meets are on the mornings of the 8th & 22nd and then the evening of the 26th, if anyone wants to come!
On a lovely summer morning, I took the girls blackberry picking. We've never picked anything before! I loved it. The girls had fun, but it started to get hot and they were out. As most amateurs do, we picked way too many! I've made blackberry muffins, crumb bars, moscow mules, cookies, and still have a ton left...but it's been fun trying new recipes.
Syd is REALLY into play-doh lately. She will happily play with it for an hour all by herself.
lots of popsicles, of courseAnother lovely evening, we decided to try blueberry picking with the Cruiks!
It was fun! I didn't get to make anything with the berries because we ate them all. It's a tad more time consuming than blackberry picking.
Mills started a reading class at a local college on the weekends. She's not really enjoying it, since she has homework to do every week. But I do think it's helping her brain stay in reading mode during the summer. She'll be ready for first grade, no problem!
Syd has decided to completely give up naps this summer. It's been so tough!! We often go to the pool around 3:30 in the afternoons, right when she starts melting down.
The Cruiks are in their beautiful new house and they have a killer backyard!
hula hooping contest...Millie is a great hula-hooper!
float, Piddy, float
After waiting two long years, we finally took the girls back to Silver Dollar City!
Our very first ride was a roller coaster called the Thunderation, and it was pretty intense! The kids did great though and we rode it twice before moving on.
They are officially too old for the baby rides. Everyone, except Piddy, was a bit bored on these types of rides.
This is more like it.
Such a fun day! It got cut a little short due to rain, but we had most of the day there to ride, play, eat, and pick out loads of taffy.
This is how Millie naps in the car now. It's pretty funny. She loves that blankie smell.
One afternoon at the pool, it started raining! And since there was no lightning, we let them stay in. They thought it was pretty cool.
Once a week, we've been inviting lots of friends over to swim late and order pizza at the pool. It's like a dream come true.
We even get an occasional date night!
Two pieces are all the rage this summer. Syd even wanted one, and loves to prance around in it. Sort of disturbing, and sort of cute.
Millie keeps her ears open nightly for the ice cream truck. It doesn't happen often, but when it does it's always at bed time. YOLO
Millie and Cayden attended a week-long art camp at her school. Mills loved showing off her school to him, and they did some pretty cool art that week!
Syd was sad she couldn't attend, so I let her do some fun art outside. In full princess gear. This is what happens when you tell them we are swinging by McDonalds on the way home. Gross.
Check out their wicked cool tie-dye shirts they made at camp!
Another day, another pool float for Syd to steal...
When Millie goes to reading class on Saturday mornings, I get Syd all to myself. Sometimes we go to the farmers market, in fancy attire, of course. Someone asked her if she was in a dance recital. ;)
Most days we get to see our neighbor friends too. So thankful to have them next door. Esme is making them a necklace here, and Asher is wishing he had boy neighbors.
Bowling is another check off the summer bucket list!Another day, another fancy outfit.
Syd has decided she wants to ride the big girl bike, so she had daddy put the training wheels back on. It's pretty cute!
Month one of summer break has been busy! It's just starting to get stifling hot, so I'm not sure what else we'll do in July. Might be time to move the party indoors while not at the pool. Millie has requested that we get on a boat one time this summer, so we are trying to make that happen!
