Our neighborhood pool opened mid-May this year, and we took advantage of it! Also, Millie has discovered how good grilled chicken legs are, thanks to my new gas grill I received for Mother's Day!
After we get home from the pool, they strip by the laundry room and run around like banshees for a bit. I love this age of innocence right now.
JKK left to go to The Preakness for a weekend with the boys. So I took the girls to our school's 5K run on a beautiful Saturday morning. I signed us up for the 1 mile fun run. It was hard for them. Millie, bless her heart, hates to be uncomfortable...so she walked more than any of us. Syd, on the other hand, kicked it into high gear at the end and had a good finish. You never know with these two! I want them to find a sport or some type of exercise they like because we want them to be healthy. We have been unsuccessful so far, but there's plenty of time! I don't think running is it though.
The Cruiks came to run with us! Cayden LOVES to run. So of course, he led the pack. And it fueled him to sign up for another race not even a month later. Very cool. Post-race breakfast and cool down at Onyx - Amanda took this beautiful pic of The Fab Four
Dance dress rehearsal - I broke out the real camera to snap a few shots since she missed dance pics this Spring. She loves the camera. ;) And it loves her! She's honestly so good at posing and taking good pics. She's a natural.
While Millie was rehearsing, Syd was conquering the monkey bars at a nearby park.
Then her hand ripped. Video: Syd on monkey barsMillie had Sage stay the night to practice for their upcoming Talent Show audition! Such brave girls; I never had the guts to do it!
Millie's good friend Bradley (a close neighbor) got a pool this year, so that's pretty darn awesome! I'm so thankful my girls can swim because it's nice to send them over to swim for the afternoon and not worry about it!
Those pinched clay pots from Terra Studios turned out beautifully <3

Since our school is an arts-focused school, there was a spring Arts Festival for us to attend. It was a showcase of all the electives, and we loved watching them perform!
First up: Millie's 2nd grade ukulele performance. They played I'm Yours by Jason Mraz, and it was beautiful!
The school turns the hallways into an art gallery, which is so fun to perfuse. We love finding the girls art, and it's so cool to see what the older kids can do too.
I've never seen Millie have as much fun as she did with the 2nd grade dance performance. They have a great dance teacher that is new to the school this year. She's done such a good job! Video: 2nd Grade dance performance at AAA
Syd said she was too embarrassed to perform with the kindergarten dance group. This makes me sad but I also totally understand it. I never wanted to be in the spotlight either.
Then we headed to the piano lab for a couple of songs. Neat that they could all play together even if in different grades: Millie, Sage, Sophia, Syd
Millie just loves to performI mean...look at her.
Syd looked like she wanted to vomit. She's so hard on herself too; she later said she was sad that she messed up. Poor Piddy.
Memorial Day weekend - we took our dog camping!
We went to Withrow Springs State Park with some neighbor friends and IT WAS AWESOME!There is a gal in my book club, Traci, whom I really love. We went with her and her family and friends. Marlowe is her daughter, and she's a couple of years older than Millie. But she's always so sweet to the girls. They totally worship her. Especially her dog, Charlie.
Our first outing was to the Kings River Falls. We had to drive way out in the middle of nowhere...
...then we hiked in about a mile to get to the falls. Syd walked Charlie the whole way. She's so in love with him.
We made it! And it was such a fun time!
Millie and JKK jumped off these water falls into this deep water that was ice cold. So brave!Syd, of course, chose not to. She's my girl, through and through. It doesn't mean she doesn't have a good time though. She always finds ways to entertain herself. She never seems to feel pressured to follow in Millie's shoes. So thankful for that.
Marlowe also is much more cautious
It was so gorgeous out there and felt so good to be in nature again. We have missed camping!Traci and Charlie, the man of the hour
water gun fight!
Our next day's outing was to canoe down War Eagle Creek! Another glorious day. Syd was petrified for the first 30 minutes that we were going to tip over. We all got comfortable though and had a great day. There were five canoes and two kayaks in our group, and we had fun stopping often to swim and eat and explore. Arkansas is so pretty, especially at this time of year.
Unfortunately, it happened...our canoe tipped. It was a bit of an adrenaline rush, but everyone was okay! However, I lost my phone in that little accident. Sad. I lost most of my pictures from the trip, but I was able to salvage a few from texts and posts I had made previous to the canoe trip. And then I had others send me some, like these below where Millie is jumping off more cliffs!
We are so proud of her bravery! But we are also a little afraid of her jumping of cliffs in the future without properly checking depth first. Eeeek.
S'mores time!
Flashback to four years ago. Awwww, they were so little. So many good memories in that camper!
Our final day, we stopped to listen to a park ranger talk about different animal pelts. It was actually pretty cool.

Syd's final walk with Charlie. She asked every hour of this trip when we could get a dog. She loves the smaller dogs. Funny story: after taking Charlie on the hike to Kings River Falls, he was worn out. The next morning, he could barely get out of bed. Marlowe took him for a quick walk in the morning, but he needed to rest all day after that. Syd kept asking when she could take him for a walk, and Traci told her he was too tired. Syd replied "well he didn't look tired on his walk. He didn't have his tongue out." We died laughing. She's so observant.
Back home with the cats...they love bird-watching in the Spring!
Syd is working on sounding out words and writing them on her own. It's pretty funny. Not sure this is how I would spell "summer" and "sunny" if I was sounding them out, but the mind is a funny thing.
When I have basketball practice after school on rainy days, I bring supplies to keep them occupied and let them play outside!
One night before bed, we spotted a brilliant rainbow outside. Syd was already asleep, but me and Millie were able to enjoy it. They really are so beautiful. Special moment.AAA night at The Naturals baseball game! Nana came! The Cruiks came! It was a great night.
First up: dance crew performance to Space Jam. I love this one. They've come a long way this year!
Another mom snapped this awesome pic of Mills. Video: DDC performs at Naturals game
If Millie gets to wear lipstick, then so does Syd. Why not?! She looks good in red!
Then they school sang the national anthem, which required a costume change. Again, Syd refused to perform in front of a crowd, so it was just Mills to watch.
Once it was all over, she was free to play with her friends! Happy girl.Stylish girl.
Can you see Beck's head poking through? A gorgeous night at the ball park with our sweet friends. We ate all the snacks and didn't really watch any of the game. Exactly what I expected. ;)
We even saw McCall there!
Nana's girlmorning treat time - they are persistent
AAA Diamond Dance Crew 2018-2019
June 1st: End of year recital: I didn't video it or take a single pic. We've seen her perform the two dances before and I just wanted to enjoy it. Afterwards, the girls changed into their fancy clothes and were "announced" at the Gala. Mills thought it was pretty cool.
Video: Millie is announced at Dance Gala
Syd chose to wear a big bow and let us know how bored she was. In her defense, it was several hours that she had to sit there and be quiet. ;)
Impromptu sleepover invite to Dylan that night was fun! We waited outside for the ice cream truck, but he was a no-show. Popsicles to the rescue.
Last week of school and these two besties are so sad to leave each other!
Big night for Sage and Millie at theTalent Show!
They did such a good job. And they even changed it up a bit at the last minute to include these cartwheels. Awesome job, ladies. So brave! Video: Millie and Sage Talent Show Dance
The day Millie looks forward to all year long: FIELD DAY!! Fire truck spray down - check.
It was hot that day, for sure. Sawyer and Syd spent a good deal of time indoors cooling off.Sabrina and Syd waiting in line for popsicles
Dilly <3
Sage was able to get her dad in the dunk tank!
A fun and exhausting day! I came the last couple of hours to hang out with them. They are so independent though, I'm not really needed. Nice to see them with their friends and so comfortable at their school though.
"Mom, take a picture of my pepperoni duck lips and send it to Sawyer's mom".
Have I mentioned how I wish I had saved all of the nurse's notes for Syd this year?! The descriptions really get me.double whammy one day last week
Syd's little crafting heart really got into this shaving cream on the table project
Since it was the last week of school, we let them start the sunroom sleepovers. They are so ready to be out of school and have some downtime! Why is the last month of school so darn busy?!
