The Tundra, aka Wisconsin

The girls and I planned a trip to Wisconsin in February on a school break.  We chose February so that we would have guaranteed snow!  Plus, we were dying to play with Kyle and meet their new doggie Louie.  Poor JKK had to work, so just the three of us flew up to the tundra.  Millie enjoyed a chair massage while we waited for our flight ;)

Oh man, was there snow!  There were also sub-zero temps.  I couldn't make myself go out there to take pics, so I just snapped some from the windows and warmth.  They had such a good time playing in that deep snow with Kyle and Louie!  Kyle didn't see the big deal tho, since he deals with this on the daily.  The girls would come in with the bright red cheeks and frozen to the core, but loved every minute and an hour later would be back out there.

Kyle has a special bond with Louie, his first pet!
Getting on my snow boots to brave the cold for a snack run with my bestie...
Goldfish haul wasn't too shabby
Look at this distinguished gentleman!  Look at how he is sitting!
Somewhere on social media, women my age are being made fun of (by women MUCH younger than us) for our side parts, emoji use, and skinny jeans.  Midge and I tried out the center part one night, but I'll just let them have this win.  I'm going to keep using all three of those things cuz I'm old and do what I want.

The cheeks need to be protected out there!
Oh man, Aunt Midge outdid herself with this one: an Oreo tasting.
She had the kids try each one and guess what it was from this list!  They had a great time.  Lady Gaga was the girls fave, of course.

More red cheeks from outdoor play, poor baby
Lots of puzzles, movies, and wine.  It was a perfect trip!
Syd loves animals - I adore her face here, glowing with love
Valentines Day fun!  Yes, sadly, we had to celebrate Vday without our main squeeze.  We hope to not do that again.  But Aunt Midge made us some fun brunch plans in a tiny little ice house, so we had no choice but to have a lot of fun!
BFF
It was a glass house, but it had plenty of heat...and hot cocoa!

outtakes

We played some games, took some slo mo videos, ate a bunch, and toasted the holiday!  A lovely morning together.

Syd took this large black plastic spoon home and played with it for three days.  Weird.
Their house has a massive basement where the kids (and dog) could go run...and also a gym!

More valentines day fun - you know Syd loves a good craft project <3
Oh, and more champagne of course
Louie's biggest fan!

This rockstar performance was a 10

Self-care Sunday

Syd really gets into the masks
Talent Show!
Which really means Millie and Kyle freestyle dancing
We really liked this dog.

ballers
Welp.  The polar vortex reached the south and our flight was cancelled.  So we got to stay another day.  And then another.  And then another!  (It was quite the news story tho - most of Texas lost power and it was super duper scary freezing in the south for a whole week!)

This one was hard...
These pink masks are hard to see, but Syd really loves doing them.

Since we were stuck in the tundra, we had to do some virtual schoolwork.  Kyle went to school and Aunt Midge and Ry worked...it all went pretty smoothly actually.  The girls and I would try to stay out of their zoom meetings and we snuck down to the basement for exercise daily.  It was an awesome setup!  More Midge time is never a bad thing.  We sooooo appreciate their hospitality and for never making us feel unwelcome!

Run, girl, run

Yoga with my big kid was super fun!

beautiful
Last night, last puzzle
Finally it felt time to get out of their hair, and with no flights available for a couple more days, we rented a car to drive home.  We met JKK in St Louis and he drove us the rest of the way.  Phew!
Look he even brought me a roadie.  True love.
Good to be home, but we had the BEST time in the tundra.  In winter.  Who knew?!
