It's mid-August and Open House is finally here! Sydney got to see her room (Harry Potter themed!) and meet her teacher (Mrs. Held)!
She even met the school mascot, a bobcat! Felt great to see her in a new school and being excited about 3rd grade!Next up was Millie's Open House! Can you see her smile? It's fake. She was a nervous wreck. Like almost broke down there. Honestly, it was overwhelming for all of us...I didn't realize that school was so big. It has over 600 kids in it because several elementary schools funnel into it. It was a rude awakening. We did get to see her room and meet her teacher (Ms. Foshee)!
They managed to have a little fun ;)
Isn't this pic the best?! Millie is so creative.
First day of school is here! This smile is definitely new but still precious.
They were excited!
First day of 5th and 3rd - August 16, 2021
OH MY GOODNESS, we get to walk to school. This has NEVER happened before. I'm the most excited about it, but man....what fun! No more carline!
Unfortunately, due to COVID, they did have to start school in masks this year. Made me sad for them to start a new school and try to meet new friends in masks. Syd had a great first day and already made some friends!
The entire week I couldn't quit taking pictures walking/biking to and from school. Such a novelty!
Poor Millie had a tough first week. She said no one sat by her at lunch the first day and I wanted to sob. It took longer than with Syd...I think middle school is just a bit tougher to make friends. I'm sure the masks don't help. But the week did get better, thank goodness.
Oh heyyyyyy, it's Nana's birthday!! Now, not to toot my own horn, but this homemade angel food cake was spectacular! We love celebrating Nana!! Gosh, she does so much for us.
Then I got to take mom out for a night on our own. <3
We went to the Tower Bar, which just happens to overlook our lot. Look! More progress! They've got the blocks up!
Kendy's first day of her senior year!
Ethyn's first day of his junior year in college!
I love seeing them emerge from the school building. What a privilege I have to get to do so much with them.
This was the first day we biked to school and it was awesome.
Lily pretty much spends all of her time on this balcony...pretty girl
dress-up with Sawyer!
The schools are so close, we like to walk up there in the evenings or weekends to play on the stuff that is always taken during recess ;)
The schools have fundraisers at various businesses that pledge part of that evening's sales to the school. Not gonna complain about having to get ice cream on a summer night in the name of fundraising!
Well, pretty quickly, Syd was sent home to quarantine due to close contact with a positive case. She never ended up getting sick and tested negative, so she was only home for about a week.
Homeschool with this one doesn't go well tho. Both of us would rather she back in school as soon as possible!
Kids these days.
Syd had to go to the knee doctor with me and she stole some of their gloves. She is so funny about these kinds of latex medical gloves! Loves them and will wear them way toooooo long, getting super sweaty.
Ribs anyone? We have the BEST BBQ PLACE one block from our house. Dangerous.
Everyone is settling into the new schools and new routines. It took about 6 weeks, but I think they are just as happy as I am with the change! So glad we did it.
