JoBros, Halloween, and Volleyball Champs!

Our neighbors have really gone all out with Halloween decorations.  They also have a garden and set out fresh vegetables for passersby to take.  Someone decided to marry the two and the girls and I laughed so hard on our walk to school!

welcome to the bread bank...we sell bread, we sell loaves...
The girls haven't been to our local concert venue in years.  When the Jonas Brothers concert was announced, I knew it was the perfect opportunity!  This picture perfectly sums up Millie at 10 years old, in 5th grade, in the year 2021.  She's grown up way too fast and is already fashionable and cool and so fun!  She's starting to think of how others view her and worries about embarrassing herself...but she's also young enough that sometimes she forgets all that nonsense and just plays like a child or chooses the comfy outfit.
We went with our friends Emily, Olivia, and Emilia.  It was fun for the girls to see our concert experience, since we so often leave them at home to attend a show!  Luckily we got our hands on some VIP passes and had the fun food and drinks!

This was so good for Millie - she met her old AAA friends at the concert.  My how she's missed them!  (Shaina, Sage, and Sophia)
Forever my girl
It was tough for the shorter littles to see, which I didn't anticipate when purchasing the lawn seats.  I was thinking there would be more room to dance!  These two can always entertain themselves, no prob.
She didn't need me but she was glad I was there.  For how much longer?? (*sobs*)
superstars Joe, Nick, and Kevin...what a show
Mimi came to town for some perfect patio weather!
Millie's volleyball team is undefeated and inching towards a championship, one Saturday at a time!
The Badgers #1 fan section
Miss Millie got a phone!  We had planned to wait as many years as possible, but living downtown has presented some new situations where she needs one.  We need it for safety, so here we are.  There has been a bit of an adjustment period for all of us and a few hiccups with behavior and etiquette.  But I guess that's to be expected, especially in this fast-paced world where everyone is on their phone non-stop.  Except for me...I'm over here reading a book but the girls act like that's just for the old people. ;)
Awww <3
Dark house, dark mood
We've still been continuing to walk or ride bikes to school!  Even in the rain...
Just gotta be prepared
Farmers Market trick-or-treating!  Millie picked her favorite Harry Potter character named Luna Lovegood and Syd decided to go with the 50s poodle skirt costume (saving the sunflower for later, reasons unknown).
We didn't even go with them!  How cool to be able to just let them head up to the square on their own and meet some friends!  They've been hanging with these sisters Addison and Charlotte quite a bit lately!
Another volleyball game and Aunt Coco is in town!
The Badgers won again!
nobody loves board games more than these two
Finally it's Halloween day!  I may have overbooked us this weekend, but YOLO, ya know?
The Crystal Bridges trails has trick-or-treating, so we went with the O'Rourkes for a lovely walkabout.
Luna decided to wear her wig this time!
Syd was getting frustrated with the mittens and the face mask on her costume.  And she was hot.  The last two years have been so cold...which is why she chose this costume and now it's quite warm.  Sorry Syd, ya never know!  I can remember so many halloweens growing up where the weather is amazing and so many where the weather is frigid...but you can never plan on it being one or the other at that time of year!
Big deer, big deer chase me. (The Great Outdoors reference)
My favorite treat.  Hahahaha, ewwww, just kidding girls.
Syd's note on our bowl of candy to be left on porch was hilarious: "Take 1 please.  Then leave please.  Thank you."

Of course we went trick-or-treating with our friends Cayden and Beckham!  Tradition.
Beck was a baseball player.  Of course.
Cayden was something...I'm unsure...an anime character I don't recognize.
They were over pictures and ready to get going!  We got to walk around their school's neighborhood so we ran into some of their new friends.  So fun!
The REAL Fab Four
Halloween's over and Syd is relieved she can FINALLY play with this wig!
Oh dear, time for mommy's fifth surgery on my right knee.  Be kind to those joints, kiddos.
This thing couldn't have been happier to have me bedridden.
Sydney's character traits: all true!  Her happy place is apparently floating in air with her eyes closed surrounded by popcorn.  Does sound nice.
Veteran's Day Project at school required the student to pick a veteran, interview him/her, and then make a poster.  Millie chose cousin Jayme.  She doesn't know him well since he doesn't live close anymore, but we used to spend a lot of time with him when he lived in Fayetteville.  We FaceTimed with him to ask him some questions, stole some pictures off his instagram, and voila!  One proud 5th grader...as she should be.
Thank you Sgt. Jayme!  Thank you to all veterans!
Syd's class had to write a thank you letter to a veteran, and she also chose cousin Jayme.  It's very sweet and kind of sad.  I love that their schools are really highlighting this important holiday!

Millie is in choir this year, and we had the pleasure of attending the veteran's day concert!  It was lovely and you can tell they worked so hard on it!  PS - Millie was the cutest.

Back to volleyball!  Millie is so great at serving the ball!  Super important game day: the championship tournament.  Since they were in 1st place, they went right to round 2 and won that game!  Thankfully, they got to play for the league championship right afterwards, so we got to see 2 games.  AND THEY WON!!!  It was all very exciting!
Her fan club was on the edge of their seats!

So glad that the grandparents could show up for this special day!

Yay Badgers!!
I'm very proud and very happy to finally have a kid in sports to cheer for.  Makes my competitive heart happy.
That weird time of day where you leave in a winter coat...
...but come home to beautiful park weather!

We love living downtown!
Syd's friends are funny.  None of her new schoolmates have cats, so when they come over, they want to hold Lily.  Lily doesn't like to be held, so she seems unfriendly and hides from them.  No one wants to listen to me...just petting, not picking up!
Always terrible to attend a funeral, but also kind of lovely when it's a bit of a family reunion.  This is Mimi and her older brother Bill.  His wife Carolyn passed away, sadly.  Mimi was happy to see him though.  They just don't get to see each other often, especially with COVID still ruling our lives...
Mom and I drove over to Oklahoma together.  This is Mimi and all of her kiddos: Dina, Terri, Bill, and Cathy (as pictured, not birth order)...Larry and Kenny are the end-caps.
Cousin Candace lives in California, so I was happy to hug her neck (as we say in Oklahoma).  Bless her heart though (another Okie saying), she's sad her grandma passed away.
