I forgot to tell Millie's new milestones in my post yesterday. On Christmas day, Millie began sitting up on her own! It's so cute and has made all the difference in her playing on her own. Now I can put her down and she's happy to play with toys on a mat; it must be much less frustrating for her than lying down all the time. Also, on Christmas day, we witnessed her rolling from back to tummy and then to back again. Such a clever girl...I knew she had it in her; apparently she just chooses not to use these rolling skills very often.
Here she is practicing her sitting up on our bed:
timberrrr!
And here's some video I just had to get...Millie has figured out that her Bumbo chair is for feeding. So when I put her in the chair, she automatically opens her mouth and is ready for the spoon. It's hilarious; certainly, no one has to tell her to open wide. This video is unnecessarily long, so if you just watch the first 30 seconds, you'll get the idea. http://youtu.be/U41Xu3da1-k
Yesterday, we went to Amanda's house for a playdate/movie day in her amazing media room. It was absolutely adorable watching Millie and Cayden play together. They kept staring at each other, and then Millie would get so excited and start talking and flapping her arms. And Cayden smiles all the time! Ohhh, they are both just so squeezable!

Big Time Holiday Fun
So much to catch up on...Christmas came with a whole new baby twist this year, which has been super great! Okay, first came Christmas Eve Eve when Colleen, Tony, Dan & Luc came out to our house to celebrate the holiday and spend the night. We played Yahtzee and Life, watched A Christmas Story (my first time to see it), went out to eat dinner AND breakfast the next morning, opened the kids' gifts, shared tons of Chuck Norris facts, and made several dozen more cookies. A good time was had by all!
On Christmas Eve, Millie woke up with a face rash. We had started her on sweet potatoes for the three previous days, so this could be the culprit. I'll try them again at a later date to see if there is a problem again. Anyhoo, no other allergy symptoms and the rash is pretty much gone by today. She looked a little sad with it though.
Early Christmas morning and Millie was up and at em, which unfortunately, is not out of the ordinary. It was fun to open gifts with her for the first time; she liked the bows. And she got some great stuff from Santa: blocks, bath toys, stacking toys, a colorful ball, lots of things that have flashing lights and loud noises, and a perfect little jewelry box with a pink ballerina inside.
here are two videos from christmas morning...nothing too exciting, but something we'll always remember :)

Christmas afternoon, we headed to my dad's house for a Tyson Christmas get-together. Tons of people showed up, and it was so nice to see everyone...and of course, we got to eat some delicious Christmas ham (thanks dad!).
the whole clan
We love you Papa
Hillery, Sheridan, Jocelynn, Tricia, Dad, Zak, Whitney, & Maya
I love these beautiful girls; they are always such a joy to be around. They are so polite and interesting and talkative, and it is fun to watch a house full of girls drive my dad wild! Another reason to celebrate: Tricia's son, Zak, asked Whitney to marry him on Christmas morning...and she said Yes! Congrats to them!!

The best news of the day: Millie slept all the way to Tulsa and all the way back!
she's still soooo interested in the pets
i swear, we did not teach her this hand gesture

24 Weeks Old and a bit of nostalgia
Beansie update: she's back to normal! We have no idea what happened a week ago with her leg, but the pain and inflammation pills seem to have done the trick. Maybe she just injured something and it has gotten better; let's hope so. We're all relieved, and she's definitely back up to her old tricks.
Camilla is 24 weeks old today! I remember being 24 weeks pregnant and feeling like it was such a milestone being a good 4 weeks past the halfway point. After all the weird first trimester stuff, the second trimester was heavenly. I felt great, and it stayed that way pretty much up until the last month of pregnancy when I was a puffy, sweaty mess. :) Anyway, this is me around 24 weeks pregnant; hard to believe it's our little Millie in there...
Exactly a year ago, we had just gotten back from our fabulous trip to France. Millie was only peanut-size, and she had already gone overseas. When will that be possible again?! Since we can't make it ten minutes in the car without a meltdown, we're guessing it might be awhile. :) A few favorites from the trip:

Sigh...those French know what they are doing with pastry. Speaking of food, we started Millie on fruits and vegetables this week in addition to her oatmeal. First up was avocado (technically a fruit), and she has loved it so far. She's still moaning a fair amount and reaching for the spoon, which is a good sign. We have to wait a few days before introducing another new food, so I'm baking some sweet potatoes today and those will be her next food to try. It's so exciting trying out all the new foods; I hope she continues to be so easy going with this food business.
Only a few more days until Christmas!

The Help
My book club picked this book a year or so ago, and I really wasn't all that thrilled about it. But once I picked it up, I couldn't put it down. It was wonderful. It was one of those books that once you've turned the last page, you close the book and clutch it to your chest, wishing it wasn't over. Dramatic, I know...but true, in my case.
Today, I watched the movie and it was just as moving, probably more so, since I now have a child of my own. I love Aibileen's mantra of "You is kind. You is smart. You is important." to the little neglected girl. And I genuinely hope that Millie will grow up knowing the difference between right and wrong and having the courage to stand up for what is right. We wish we could raise her in a place with a more diverse population and a tad more liberal perspective, but this is home and John and I will do the best we can. It's helpful that there are movies and books out there that are able to remind us what is important and how far we have come.

Tis the Season
I love the holiday season. It makes me want to cook stuff in the crock pot and try out new holiday cookie recipes. I don't actually like decorating the tree, but I love when it gets done and we have a very pretty tree to look at for a month. The stockings are hung and I've had my holiday playlist on repeat for a week now. Ten days to go...
Back in November when Midge visited, we did a little crafts project with Millie. I think the hand & footprint art turned out great. I've framed them now so that they can become part of our holiday decorations in the future.
And here are some of her pictures from our Christmas card photo shoot...doesn't she look warm and cozy?
And finally...try not to roll your eyes...I found a little reindeer suit, which is actually just pajamas. I've added some reindeer antlers and forced our child to take pictures in this getup. It may be a bit too much, but seriously, she looks good in anything, right?!
Hope you're having a merry season!

What day is it?
I can't remember what day it is, and I often don't leave the house for days at a time. I love it! When is the last time in your adult years that you can remember that happening?? This is pretty normal for our household these days, but I actually have a good excuse this week. Last Friday, I had my wonky belly button fixed (technical name: umbilical hernia). Not gonna make myself out to be a trooper here...it hurt. I actually had to be put to sleep for the surgery, so Colleen came out for a day to help take care of me and hang with John and Millie. I woke up to a very sore belly and 5 dozen of Colleen's delicious cookies (thanks Colleen!). We had a nice weekend of lounging around, watching movies together, eating cookies, and playing with millabean. That's pretty much all I'm up to this week, as well. I'm not supposed to lift anything over 10 lbs, so I'm just trying to take it easy. Thank God for the Internet...otherwise, we would have no Christmas shopping done.
While Colleen was here, she made a Christmas tutu for her jingle bell jog on Saturday. It turned out really great! She made the whole thing, but I got to put my sewing machine to use to sew the elastic ends together. It only required one phone call to mom. :)

One more piece of news: please keep our doggie, Beansie, in your thoughts this week. She can't use her back leg to walk, and we aren't sure what's the problem. Johnny had to carry her home from her walk yesterday morning. :( He took her to the vet and they think it might be a back disc problem or possibly a nerve issue. She has been on pain pills for 24 hours now and is doing a little better for the time being. I'll keep everyone posted. xoxo

Nana's Holiday Visit
As previously mentioned in the blog post "Trip to Mimi and Pa's", Nana came to visit! She came in early December, and we went ahead and gave Millie her Christmas gifts from Nana.
Nana got Millie this awesome activity table to stand up and play. Millie can't stand up on her own yet, but she can stand with assistance and loves playing with all of the cool stuff on the Leap Frog table. We can even switch the language from English to Spanish. Pretty fancy...
And check out this super cute (and super warm) kitty cat hat; nice find, Nana!
I always enjoy my mom's visits. We had our first snowfall of the year while she was here, which delayed her departure a day (I wasn't sad about that). And we also had a little sewing lesson. I've had a sewing machine for years, but I never get enough practice to consider myself able to sew. This time, though, we had a few days to sew together and I think I'm slowly acquiring a pretty good base knowledge. Now I just need tons of practice. This is something I really want to master. I loved having a mom who could sew (and still do!). She sewed Halloween costumes and jams (shorts) for church camp; up until a year ago, she was still hemming my work pants for me. I want to be able to do these things for my kids too. So if they need a square sewn together, I'm the girl for the job! :) Ha! Hopefully, I'll get better...

Nana also got her a baby doll...her very first! Not sure what we'll name her yet.

5 Months Old
Our chubby little bear is 5 months old!
one-week old:
one-month old:
two-months old:
three-months old:
ALWAYS grabbing on to her feet these days...
I just love your little face and chubby cheeks; I kiss them a million times a day!
This month has brought so many changes. You started rolling over from tummy to back. You don't do it often, but I've seen you do it several times now. When you're on your back, you can really move...side-to-side and all around in a circle. You also really scare us by trying to squirm out of your infant chair, yellow rocker, and swing. We have to strap you in most of the time now, which you normally don't care for. It's especially hard at night to strap you in to your rocker while trying to keep you asleep. I've been trying to use the pack-n-play bassinet in our room more for your naps and to start you out in at night so that, hopefully, we can get rid of the yellow rocker soon. You're almost too big for it, but you love that reclined position. I have to admit, it looks much more comfortable than being spread eagle on a flat surface.
You've been making it into our bed much more lately, which makes me nervous, but it is so hard to stay strong when you sleep so well in our bed. Plus, its just fun to have you wake us up with your morning babbling. :) One of these days we'll use that crib!
You've really been trying to sit up by crunching your midsection and legs up; it's the perfect little boat pose. Abs of steel, here we come. We've been working on the sitting up during playtime, and you're doing so well. I'm positive you'll have that down within the month. Standing is still your preferred position though. On our laps, on the counter, on the bed...we help you stand up wherever we have you so that you can look around and check everything out. You're so curious! And it is so funny to see you watch the pets as they walk by. When you hear Greenlee's claws on the floor, you start looking around for her. I keep asking you "where's the puppy?" or "where's our kitty?".
Your hair is getting so much longer. We crack up on bath days at your super fuzzy hair standing up. I can get a tiny bow in it now, but isn't very sturdy. See...here you are with a cute bow (and giving mouth-to-mouth to your sweet little lamb).
Everything goes in your mouth now. Hands, toys, blankets, bibs, my hair...it doesn't seem to matter. There is so much drool! You still love your pacifiers, but every once in awhile you are happy to use your thumb in its place. You are the best eater. We introduced cereal this month and you love it! Sometimes you make moaning noises, and you'll let me know if I'm too slow in between bites. We also had to introduce some pear juice this month to get your system flowing again. The first gulp produced a strange face, but you took it in stride and went on to finish the bottle. We've really been working to get you used to bottles and having others feed you this month, and it seems to have really paid off. I now feel much more comfortable leaving you knowing that you will take a bottle from someone other than me. You've even started holding the bottle; it's super cute, and of course, it makes me even further convinced that you are a genius baby. :)
You're generally pretty easy to get down for naps and to sleep at night. We still have a few nighttime meltdowns, but I think it is just when you get overtired. It's so easy to keep an eye on you with our video monitor. Dad and I can tell immediately when you are up because you stick your legs straight up in the air. We think it's hilarious, and we'll just yell out "feet up" to let the other one know that you are ready to be picked up.
It's been another easy month, and you're just so easy to love. Looking forward to our first Christmas together! Oh, Millie Bear, we're so glad you're ours...
