3 Years Old

Millie turned three years old on Sunday!  This was the first year that her birthday was a lot of fun for ALL of us.  She really knew what was going on this time and enjoyed every second of being in the spotlight!

I decided to try to interview her for her birthday and ask a few of her favorite things.  The video will drive you nuts because she won't quit putting a blanket over her head and spouting off random pretend scenarios.  However, she was answering the questions so well, I hated to scrap it and try again later.  Putting a blanket over her head is a new funny thing to do.  She's silly.  Video: birthday interview

A few of my favorite answers...

  • best friend: Noelly (Noel's nickname) and Cayden lives with her at the park
  • favorite animal at the zoo: wolves (and the strange look and nod she gives after answering)
  • favorite color and also favorite kind of ice cream: pink
  • favorite thing to do with mommy: color
  • favorite thing to do with daddy: chase

She was super excited to get a "tractor", as she calls it ;)
Her birthday cake was pink AND had a candle - both specific requests.  We may have started a new tradition by having birthday cake for breakfast.  She gets very excited to blow out the candle!
She loves to hold up three fingers...and point out any number 3s she sees on signs, cereal boxes, mail, etc.  Video: make a wish, Millie!

Millie's current likes:
painting, riding tricycle/bikes/tractor outside, chocolate, going to the zoo, corn dogs, having her fingernails and toenails painted, water bottle-y with juice, playing chase, chasing syd, pestering syd, swinging, swimming, watching Little Bear, going on an adventure, playing dinosaur cave, going to the "yellow park" or the "red park", getting the mail, gummy worms, going to the ice cream store or cupcake store, going to Chuck E Cheese, dancing to "Whip Your Hair", singing "Let It Go", singing along with movies and TV shows, coloring with markers, pretending to read books to Buddy, playdates with Cayden, picnics at the park, cucumbers, carrots with sauce (Ranch), picking flowers, pouring pretend tea or coffee ("be careful, it's hot!"), blowing dandelions, reciting 10 trick-or-treaters book, throwing rocks in the pond, blankie rolled up in a "taco".
Millie's current dislikes:
having her hair fixed, going poop on the potty, meat, going through the car wash, saying sorry, sitting in timeout.
Millie says:

  • there are certain words that she flip-flops: wash-car for car wash, pack-back for backpack
  • whenever we drive towards walmart, which is right next to the car wash, she starts anxiously repeating "we don't have to go to the wash-car!"
  • after hearing us whistle at Beansie, she tries whistle too.  It's so funny to hear the sound she makes...a high-pitched squeal thing.  She does it to Syd or Beansie sometimes.  At swim lessons, she wanted everyone to return to the shallow end where she was wading, so she yelled "hey you guys! come down here!" and then she did the whistle.  I busted out laughing.
  • all four of us were playing upstairs in her room one night before bed, when Mills left the room and closed the door behind her.  A few moments later, we heard a knock on the door and she said in her sweet voice "Do you wanna build a snowman?".  We died.  This is from the movie Frozen.
  • If I say I'm going to the store or to get food, she always asks "can I go to? can we go inside??".
  • we hear "watch this" about a thousand times a day.
  • we also hear "and yesterday..." quite a bit each day.  She knows that yesterday means it happened in the past, so she uses that for everything that happened previous to this very second.  Even if it happened an hour ago, she'll still say "and yesterday, we did blah blah blah".
  • we've heard a lot about how "and yesterday, those wassuses (wasps) got Milwie...those wassuses should say sorry to Milwie" (how she pronounces her name)
  • she asks the question "why?", mostly in appropriate context.  we hear "why?" a lot.  very curious these days.
  • recently, she picked up JKK's belt and put it on, then she said "look, I'm John!"
  • when her fingernail polish wears off, she gets worried that her "fingertails" (that is not a typo) are gone.  "oh noooo, where'd my fingertails go?"
  • she's very sensitive to new smells and isn't shy about loudly asking "what's that smell??".  she doesn't like for me to cook bacon or strong smelling foods.  yet, she cracks up if we are changing her and are complaining that it's stinky. ;)
  • her new catchphrase "that's just how it works" - as in, Millie why'd you go pee pee in your panties?  And she replies "that's just how it works".
  • she also says "nah, I'm good" - as in, Millie are you ready for a nap?  And she replies "nah, I'm good".
  • overheard Millie asking Syd "do you like my armpits??"
  • she's still very good at lightening the mood with "can you be happy like this?" and sporting a huge fake smile
I'm so proud of our big girl.  She's silly and quirky, beautiful and beautifully tanned, and she gives the best compliments.  She's a great big sister, and she's always such a supportive cheerleader of Syd and her friends & classmates. She loves to clap and say "great job!".  She loves pickles and vegetables and treats of any kind.  She has a natural intuition for physical feats, and it looks like she'll be quite the athlete.  She's adventurous and energetic and so much fun.  She also has a wonderfully entertaining performer inside of her that is fantastic to witness.  We love you, Millie Bear, and we are so glad you're ours!

Measure Me

This morning, I had Millie stand in front of our ruler to measure her for her 3rd birthday.  It was too cute not to share with her random outfit of big girl panties and kitty cat swimsuit.

~39 inches
To add to the cuteness, Syd didn't want to be left out and got right over there once Millie vacated the spot ;)

Cookout at Papa's

Yesterday we went to my dad's house for a cookout and to see Leann, Ethyn, and Kendyl who were visiting from Colorado.  What a fun day!
Fred the (female) kitty was a big entertainer yesterday.  Syd had belly laughs watching her play with Ethyn.
Kendyl is a gymnast and was flipping and flopping all over the place the entire day.  Impressive.  Millie threw in a somersault or two here and there.
Hard to get all four of the grandkids to look and smile at the same time.  Clearly, E & K weren't the problem.
 sprinkler time!
Millie even convinced E to get in!  She can be very convincing when she uses her sweet voice...
Syd enjoyed watching with Aunt Leann <3
We celebrated Millie's birthday a little early with everyone.  She got to blow out a candle! Happy 3rd Birthday to Millie video
Syd chose the no-hands approach (Video: Syd doesn't need hands to eat a cupcake)
Kendyl and Syddles enjoyed Millie's bday present
More picture chaos when trying to get a shot of the four of them ;)  Kendyl had to balance both babies on her lap because Millie was a little weary of Ethyn.  She loved him from afar though.  Little girls are so silly sometimes...
Millie was in heaven.  Kendyl is the absolute best with the young kiddos.  I wish (for the millionth time) that we lived closer.
It was an all-American day...we even had some catch with a football
 daddy swinging
Millie gives the best "Kristin look" at times ;)
When Syd gets excited, she puts her head down and charges like a bull.
Uncle David came by!
Millie's first time to go feed the ducks (er...geese; she kept correcting us) at the nearby pond!  It's a tradition.  Waiting on the fleet to come in...
gaggle
Ethyn is taller than his momma already...
squeeeeeeze
Hillery is also taller than her momma ;)
my arm isn't quite as long as I had hoped...
Millie sold everyone popsicles at the park - she LOVES to play grocery store
 my pops
Another fun day at Papa's & Grandma Tricia's!  Wish this happened more often...

Happy 4th of July!

Second year in a row to take these 4th of July pics out on our back patio...maybe it'll become a tradition. ;)  Here is last year's post...so much changes in a year!

Love the back of her romper...and that tiny curl of hair
This chick is going to be 3 on Sunday!!  Holding up three fingers takes some concentration, but she's got it down.  We've been telling her that 3 year olds can't wear diapers anymore.  Potty training, take two...coming right up.  I think I'm more mentally prepared this time ;)

More Syd Pid Milestones

The month of June brought a lot of new things for Syddles...most notably, she is officially weaned.  I nursed her for the last time on June 19th, right after she turned 13 months old.  The Gentlease formula is going really well, and we should start trying a true milk-based formula sometime soon.  I'm so thankful I was able to nurse her for so long.  My last baby...
we moved her from the lobster chair to the big girl high chair, which also makes for a big girl mess
 wheeeeee
Our poor girl is having a hard time with 3 top teeth coming in.  She's been extremely whiny the past 48 hours.  Hope those things come in soon.  She's also been a bit clumsy lately and has scraped her knees all up...and her nose!
First time to go to the pool!  She was not a fan.  I got this wicked cool swimsuit that has floaties built into it...it looks hilarious in person.  I guess it's wasted on her though...she wants nothing to do with the pool.  Fine by me. ;)
She picks things up all day long and offers them to us, like a prize.  She also points at everything, especially if she wants a bite. ;)
Her first cell phone.  We charged one of our old cell phones for her to use, just like we used to do with Millie.  I've never seen her happier ;)
Although it doesn't look like it here, she loves to ride on her trike.  She's also really great on our morning walks...really relaxed.  Always with a puff cup full of cheerios.  Can you give a kid too many cheerios?!
I'm pretty sure she's started saying "momma".  Usually when she's hurt or upset, but I'll take it!  She still loves to be swung about, as well.  She's so happy 99% of the time and always excited to be included in whatever activity we have going on.  I love her enthusiasm ;)
She gives great kisses & hugs!  It's so sweet...she gives them on command.  Probably the only person in the house that doesn't want kisses is the one she's most generous with: Buddy.  And it's always an open-mouth kiss.  Gahhhh!  Here's some video

going in for a kiss...
 ...then a little grab
She's so funny...we love our Pid Pid (as Millie calls her).

Millie's Worst Nightmare

Ever since Millie witnessed Noel get trapped in the bouncy house with a big bumblebee, she has talked about it daily...very worried and asking lots of questions still.  That was weeks ago...and he didn't even get stung.  This morning, Millie's worst nightmare came true.  We went on our morning walk, which always ends at the neighborhood playground.  She started up the stairs and then there was a big commotion and she let out the most blood-curdling scream.  I started running towards her and could see multiple wasps swarming her.  It was awful, y'all.  She was stung four times.  The neighbor sent an exterminator up there already, and he informed me they were paper wasps, which are extremely aggressive right after hatching.  Oh my word.  Poor Millie.  She's fine, and thankfully had no allergic reaction to the stings.  Mentally though, she's a bit shook up.  She keeps asking "what happened to Millie??".  She also said those wasps should apologize to Millie, and I agree.
