Millie 2 2/3 Years Old

Time for another Millie Bear update.  However, I just went back to read her 2 1/3 update in November and really not much has changed, as far as her likes and dislikes go.  What HAS really changed is her talking, which is so fast now that it's hard to keep up with what all she is trying to tell us. ;)  I've quit writing down the funny things she says because there are just too many every single day.
updates/additions to Millie's likes:

  • Chase is still her favorite game, but we've been working on hide-n-seek some too.  She likes the counting part, but she's terrible at the hiding part.  She wants to do the counting every time.
  • Still singing her heart out, and Twinkle Twinkle is still the default song of choice.  Now though, she's really getting into some songs from school: This Little Light of Mine and I May Never March in the Infantry seem to be her two school favorites.  We always have music playing during nighttime naked time; The Okee Dokee Brothers is the current fav and it's cute to hear her sing along to it.
  • Dancing has really amped up.  She likes to "whip her hair" to Willow's song of the same name.  Recently, us three girls have been boogying to Pharrell's Happy song.  Yes, Syd too.
  • New food loves: we are finally able to give her dairy without restriction (but we can still tell if she has too much), so mac-n-cheese and pizza have become quick favorites.  She likes the "baby pizzas" where I make them with biscuits.  And although it isn't dairy related, she loves brown rice.  She'd like nothing better than a big bowl of brown rice with veggies for dinner...no meat, please.
  • Blankie/Owl isn't new, but Owl is apparently losing his luster and Blankie is the clear favorite.  She loves touching the silky lining and rubbing it on her face.  Now she makes us roll him up into a taco shape where none of the other fabric is showing and only the silky part is on the outside.  Blankie/Owl aren't allowed to leave the house though, so it's only for bedtime or when she is extra tired and whiny.
  • This Winter has seemed so long; we all miss the park and walks and water play out back.  Unfortunately in the absence of these things, I've allowed her to watch a bit too much TV.  She still loves Curious George and Little Bear, but she's had a different favorite movie just about every week.  Winnie the Pooh, Monsters, Inc. and Monsters University are old news.  She's since moved on to Finding Nemo (she loves Dory), then The Care Bears Movie (which is too scary for her), then The Lion King ("where'd 'Fasa go??"), then the Jungle Book (so old that the graphics are awful), then Toy Story 2 (yayyyy, it's Jessie and Bullseye!), arriving at her current favorite of Toy Story 3 (it has both Jessie AND a huge purple stuffed teddy bear).  Some days, she'll watch the whole thing, but most of the time she's up and playing during the movie too.  Looking forward to shelving these until next Winter (where they will be guaranteed to help save my sanity, once again).
  • Kitty hunting is all the rage.  We have 3 outside kitties that live just down the road and she loves to go on a kitty hunt.  Thankfully, one of them (Dewayne) is very friendly and lets Mills pet and play.

  • She loves being a big sister.  It's finally registering that she gets to do some things that Syd can't...like chew food ("babies don't have teeth!") or go to school ("it's not for mommies or daddies or babies").  I'm so proud of the way Millie interacts with Syd 90% of the time.  She likes to play with her and read to her and feed her...and she gives such enthusiastic hugs that Syd usually ends up crying and on the ground.  There are plenty of moments where she steals Syd's toys or gets a bit needy with my attention, but it's really surprised me how well Millie has adjusted.  I always say how lucky we are that Syd is so laid back, but we are just as lucky that Millie has such a loving little heart.

updates/additions to Millie's dislikes:
  • Cayden moving so far away
  • I've created a little monster with the picture taking...I started offering treats if she would smile.  Now she thinks she gets a treat every time.  She really loves smarties candy.
  • wearing clothes...she's constantly disrobing or asking us to help her take off her clothes
  • letting other little kids look at or touch Syd
  • playing dress-up
  • sharing and taking turns

 Millie says:

  • she pronounces veggie chips as "guppie chips"
  • the other day, she wanted me to open a package and told me to go get a "sharp".  I guess this is what she calls either knives or scissors because I'm always saying to "be careful, it's sharp!".  To be clear, I don't let her play with knives or scissors...
  • she likes to look at our gum...in our mouth.  and she calls it "grum", as in "let me see your grum, daddy".
  • Aunt Kathy gave her a little cash register that she loves playing with, especially the coins.  she's constantly looking for her "poins".
  • instead of "car wash", she calls it the "wash car" (which she still hates, by the way)
  • when we get Syd out of her bed, Millie always says "didja have a good nap, syd?"
  • Millie loves to ask "whazzis?"...which is actually "what's this?" but she says it so fast and it is one word with a random 'z' sound thrown in.  Even when she knows what something is, she still often asks; we usually have to end up turning the question back around to her to break the cycle.
  • I've overheard her telling Syd: "not so fast, Syd"
  • her go-to pretend strategy either involves counting and telling someone to sit in timeout (or if they're really in trouble, they get a swat) OR pouring you a cup of coffee and telling you it's hot.  also, baking cookies or bday cake in her kitchen are other favorite pretend scenarios
  • she loves to use my own words against me: "just a minute, i'm busy"; "i'm not kidding"; "i'm not playing this game".
  • we've done a pretty good job of cleaning up our mouths in front of Mills these past few months, but apparently she hasn't forgotten.  last week when she spilled something, I let out a groan.  she said "heyyyy, don't say that word!".  I told her it wasn't a bad word, and she asked "not like God Damnit?".  uhhhh, nope.  sigh.  love this kid!

This Friday, we embark on the potty training journey, since next week is her Spring Break.  Wish us luck!

Syd: Certified Walker (this is not a Walking Dead reference)

BIG NEWS FOR SYD PID: she's officially walking now!
This weekend she just took off (and took me by surprise!): Syd's first time walking (more than just 3 or 4 steps)  Millie is her biggest cheerleader!

Am I the only one that thinks of the Walking Dead TV show when we refer to her as a "walker"? :)  Actually, JKK's nickname for her has been "Biter" for quite awhile because she makes A LOT of zombie-like sounds.

Warmer temps and longer days....ahhhh, soooo much better.  We actually played outside this afternoon!
And we had the windows open in the sunroom this evening.  Sunshine makes everything better.  Except Syd's eczema (which you can see all on her back).  I was in denial for the past few weeks thinking she just had dry skin, but now it is red and patchy.  Doesn't seem to bother her, but I am trying to get it cleared up quickly before it gets really bad.

Other random pics:
big girls playing nicely together
If you sit on the floor, she'll come crawl all over you.  I love it.
Comfy?  Looks like it.
I've passed my bad habit of eating chocolate almond butter (or sometimes nutella...oh, the shame spiral!) straight from the jar.
Pretty sure she'll need Botox some day ;)

Snow Days in March

We've been snowed in...again.  I'm not even angry about it, just resigned.  I'm destined to be stuck in this house with these kids...FOREVER.  The worst thing about being snowed in: Cayden no longer lives in our neighborhood.  We have no one to play with, and that includes me. ;)  Hurry up Springtime!

I won't be able to do these double airplane rides for much longer...
...they're getting a bit heavy :)
Today, I broke out the tunnel to spice it up a bit, but I couldn't get Syd to go through it.
We also baked cookies today!  Millie is turning into such a great helper (and spoon licker)
This is what our Sunday snow day looked like.  These pics crack me up.  Daddy's such a good sport.
Can't keep clothes on Millie these days!
She's not okay with clothes, but for some reason, accessories she can handle.
Mills is going through a strange time at Little Gym.  The past month she hasn't really been into it and asks to leave throughout the class.  She usually is wearing this lovely look on her face and won't mind the teacher...and we usually end up heading out early.  Maybe she's outgrowing it.  Sad.
Syd is everywhere, all the time now.  I keep thinking I should put up the baby gate corral, but I'm lazy and don't want to hear Millie whine about being lifted in and out of it.  Thus, I've been trying to hold off at least until she's really walking.
Puffs!  She digs them, for sure.
Last week, Millie learned about the sun and moon and stars...this is an interesting interpretation.
This is one of my favorites, and she really likes it too.  I said "oh, how cool, it's the sun and moon and stars", and she said "yeah! and clouds!!".
For documentation sake - this is Millie's school lunch almost every Monday and Thursday this year.  She really likes her turkey lunchmeat rolled up and she calls them "turkey tacos".  Other items: cheese stick, celery, orange bell peppers, cucumbers, Kashi crackers, grapes, whole milk (which she doesn't drink at school but is sent because it is a requirement), and water.  Most of the time, she eats almost all of it...sometimes, she leaves the cheese stick or turkey, but never the veggies or grapes.
Time for a Millie flashback!  Remember when Millie would pat her belly when she was around 9 mos old?  Like this...

Syd's been doing it too, and it makes me smile every time :)  This is a short video I posted on Instagram, so I'll just go ahead and upload it to the blog:

Here are other recent videos that I have posted to YouTube:
1) Since I brought up Millie flashbacks, I need to share this video JKK found on his phone recently.  Millie is 18 mos old here and not really talking much yet.  When he sent this to me the other day, I watched it like five times in a row.  I can't believe this was Millie in February 2013.  Crazy how much difference a year makes.  Ohhhh, isn't she sweet?? sweet baby millie

2) Then fast forward to Millie these days...hahaha, we crack up when she says "whatchu want?!" millie's flower cake

3) Nighttime naked time horsey rides: syd rides millie

4) More of Millie's amazing vocals with an Arkansas accent: millie sings thumbkin

Pancake Time

Last night, we decided to go out to eat, which we NEVER do with the kiddos.  Go ahead and roll your eyes, as if it is that big of a deal to go out to eat with kids....but listen, it is.  It isn't fun for any of us, so it is much more enjoyable to stay at home and do the same routine every night for the next few years or until they can be trusted to not get on our nerves.  However, yesterday we just needed something fun, so we went super fancy and headed to the nearest IHOP.  And you know what?  It was fun!  Of course, I wasn't the one sitting next to Millie, so I probably had a little more fun than JKK.  Oh, and when we were leaving, Millie pronounced all of the birds outside as "cute".  It's her new word.

Another reason we stay home: Millie never eats anything, but she does enjoy the coloring
Syd's first time in a high chair!  Can't wait for this bebe to get some teeth so we can break out the puffs
Other happenings:

Syd is now officially in her big girl car seat...she seems unimpressed.  All she cares about is that she can still see Millie.
Millie loves to make play-doh snakes...well, she loves for me to make them and then she plays with them
We went back to Boingo Bounce last week...
...and Millie is now going down the slides!  This is big news.  She was so brave.
JKK & I had a fun date night on Friday!  We used another care.com sitter and we really liked her.
Syd.  Happy.
A rare afternoon outdoors
Millie's raking the tree - good job, Mills!
Syd's first time taking the walker outside AND wearing real shoes!  No more walking on her own yet though...
Our pediatrician said to start giving her some soft foods to learn how to pick it up and put it in her mouth.  Her face with these carrots was hilarious.  I think the texture freaked her out.
Nighttime naked time never gets old.  Millie is enjoying having a little playmate. ;)

Millie's Latest Artwork

Here are some of Millie's most recent works of art from school:

abstract snowman
tree with snow
See how she's starting to color specific things on the page, like the teacher's face?
A+ coloring, Mills!
She's started drawing happy faces, except she always makes a line for the mouth and declares him to be "sad"
Cayden got her these super cool paper doll stickers for Christmas
She loves to dress them, and I think she does a great job putting the stickers where they go, especially those tiny shoes!
artwork from school today
cheez face from this morning before school <3
